Real Talk: Why Vinyl Wraps Are Better For Your Vehicle Than Repainting Or PlastiDip

Our installers and designers naturally get a lot of questions about vinyl wraps. The most common ones, naturally are about why people choose vinyl wraps over repainting their car or using PlastiDip. There are a few reasons why people choose vinyl wraps over other options.

Vinyl Wraps vs Paint

Cost: In general, vinyl wraps cost around 25% of what a high-quality paint job costs and the end result is very similar. Vinyl wraps give you graphical flexibility as well as easy maintenance and removal (more on that later), it’s understandable why so many car owners prefer them.

Installation Time: A vinyl wrap can generally be installed in two days with many done within a day. It’s not unusual for a car’s repainting to take a week or more, leaving you without your car.

Limitless Color And Design Options: With so many vinyl wrap color choices, materials and digitally printed designs available, your vehicle will stand out from the rest of the crowd. It doesn’t matter if you want an understated matte or are looking to completely transform your vehicle into a personal statement, vinyl wraps will give you the desired outcome.

Improved Protection: Every inch of your vehicle that’s covered in vinyl protects the original paint job from sun, weather, stone chips and other hazards that are encountered while driving. This, when combined with the ease of removal, means the resale value on your vehicle stays higher.

Easy To Maintain: With a vinyl vehicle wrap, you’ll never need to wax again. Just hand-wash your car with soap and water and you’re good to go!

Easy To Remove: Want to go back to your original look or change your wrap for a new one? It takes just a couple of hours for one of our wrap professionals to remove most car wraps with no damage to your original paint job.

Vinyl Wrapping vs PlastiDip

More Durable: PlastiDip gets a lot of attention because it’s usually cheaper than vinyl wrap, but you definitely get what you pay for. Everything from bird droppings (seriously!) to gasoline and rock chips eats away at a PlastiDip coating. We’ve even heard reports of someone spitting on a PlastiDipped car and incurred damage.

More Colors and Designs: There are just a few colors available for PlastiDip and they’re very limited. You can’t create designs using PlastiDip effectively and you can’t apply any kind of temporary decals to the surface after application. Glossy coatings are only available after the initial installation and there are currently none that come close to matching a vinyl wrap’s appearance.

More Attractive, Period: A lot of people are intrigued by the idea of applying PlastiDip themselves to change their car’s appearance. That’s an easy impulse to understand, but PlastiDip is difficult to apply correctly. That’s why PlastiDip can frequently look splotchy and inconsistent compared to a vinyl wrap.

Easier To Remove And Repair: Plasti-Dip is difficult to remove and requires specialty chemicals to do the job properly. In fact, it’s very easy to damage your original paint job when removing PlastiDip Vinyl Wraps are also more easily repaired in the event of damage to your car’s fender or another place.

The Customers Speak

Do you want even more reason to consider a vinyl wrap over paint or PlastiDip? How about our own customers explain their reasons for choosing Wraps1. Jeremy Schonwald from Los Angeles says:

After looking at the pros and cons of paint vs wrap as well as paint vs PlastiDip, I decided wrapping my Lexus IsF would be the optimal decision. From a cost perspective, flat and satin paint jobs were extremely high priced, leaving me worried that if I ever needed a touch up job, I would need to repaint an entire side of the car. Secondly, the wrap acts as a paint protector rather than a paint ruiner. The factory paint job stays protected under the removable wrap rather than destroying it by the painting process, still maintaining a high-end look.

Now as to why I chose the wrap over PlastiDip? My choice was based on the quality of the product. The wrap looks as if it were a factory option rather than a cheap knock-off. After looking at the PlastiDip, I thought it looked cheap and had a poor quality that I’d never want on one of my vehicles.

So after thinking of the pros and cons, I chose to go with Wraps1. The quality of their work was above par and gave me the option of change.

Marvin Castillo from Redondo Beach, CA had a similar reasoning behind going with a vinyl wrap for his Audi R8.

I chose to go with a wrap over paint because nowadays it looks just as good, and you can just remove it when you’re bored or if it gets damaged. This removes the worry of hurting the resale value of your car when you choose to re-paint. It protects your cars from scratches and scuffs and that alone is worth the price. When you’re bored with your car, you can just switch the color. It’s like having a new car every 6 months!

Everyone that sees the car is in shock when I say it’s a wrap; when your own detailer who sees cars everyday for a living is amazed and impressed by the precision and workmanship, it says a lot. Not one person hasn’t been impressed with the quality of the wrap installation. This is why Wraps1 will always be my go-to company.

There you have it. Two happy customers and a whole list of reasons you should choose vinyl wraps over other options.
